Just like the sound of crunching leaves is the undeniable soundtrack of fall, so pumpkin is its taste. It is a sign of the harvest, can be carved into a silly face, and can be feasted on morning, noon, and night. I always go a little overboard on pumpkin because I grew up addicted to the pumpkin bread from Great Harvest (copycat recipe below). We had off-campus lunch privileges my senior year so at least once a week, we would swing by for a smoothie and a slice of bread. Thank god for youthful metabolisms. We actually thought we were being healthy by drinking sugar loaded smoothies. You live and learn. However, I still haven't managed to kick my pumpkin habit, and I haven't been able to seek treatment as Denver has yet to open a local Pumpkin Lovers Anonymous chapter. Hopefully, you don't find me this fall strung out in an alley off of Colfax, surrounded by empty cans of pumpkin puree with orange goop smeared all over my face. This could get ugly people, seriously. But until I hit rock bottom, I will continue adding pumpkin to pretty much everything. Here are some mouthwatering recipes that I am ridiculously excited to try out.
I could really go for some of that ice cream right now. Or really any of it, quite honestly. I included the Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe because there has been a lot of stuff online about how bad they really are for you if you buy them at Starbucks. I won't tell you what to eat or where to eat for that matter, but I will tell you that if you make something at home with ingredients that you bought, you will at least KNOW what you are putting in your body. Psh that Starbucks latte doesn't even have pumpkin in it, and aint nobody got time for that.
