How time flies! It was slightly more than a year ago that Mike and I took our engagement photos at Red Rocks and in the small town of Morrison nearby. I had always wanted to take our engagement photos there because we have had so many special memories at Red Rocks with our friends listening to great music. The red rocks create such a breathtaking backdrop for photos, and our amazing photographer, Joni Schrantz, was great at playing with the light and using the sky to create even more drama in the photos. Mike was really worried about how he would look because he had never really been comfortable looking natural in front a camera. In most photos he is photo bombing or making a ridiculous face or smirking. Joni did such a wonderful job directing him that I don't think you could even tell he had been nervous.
There were so many that I loved! In case you couldn't tell, incorporating Bateman into our photos was really important to both of us. He is basically just a big 'ole fur baby, and many hurt feelings and mutual tensions have been absolved because of that little wag monster. I had also spotted this wall of licence plates on an the side of an old service station in Morrison, and I thought it would be a great backdrop for photos. That is definitely something that I recommend before you do your engagement photos: drive around town and look for unique places that would make great vignettes. Sometimes this can even be a cool wall covered in graffiti or a dramatic looking building, an amusement park, ect. Then plan what you are going to wear based on your setting and always remember to compliment your partner, but not match. Wear something bold! You don't want to get lost in your own photos. Most importantly, just relax and be yourself. I ended up having a lot of fun except for when we got yelled at by a park ranger for being off of the path. Sorry I'm not sorry. It is kind of like being a model for the day, minus the fat paycheck and protruding collarbones. Enjoy it. You only get to be engaged once (hopefully!)
